My curfew was lightning bugs. My parents didn’t call my cell, they yelled my name. I played outside with friends, not online. If I didn’t eat what momma cooked, then I didn’t eat. Sanitizer didn’t exist, but you COULD get your mouth washed out with soap. I rode a bike with no helmet. Getting dirty was ok, and neighbors cared as much as your parents did. I drank from a garden hose and lived.
Eric grew up way before me, but I’m old enough to know where he is coming from. I’m so lucky I got to grow up a couple years before technology did. It’s a shame that kids today grow up the way they do. I’m grateful I got to experience what it’s like to be a kid that’s not constantly holding a cell phone, game controller, or keyboard. I’m blessed to have grown up in a time where people weren’t afraid of each other and we all weren’t convinced EVERYTHING could kill us. I got to be a kid, a normal kid. One with no worries. These virtual connections we make with those around us are destroying the physical connections we hold with real people. Kids have more expected of them at earlier ages, they are being exposed to more stress than I ever was. The 90’s were great
